Hello, I am a 12 year old Scout in Norton (which is in Sheffield, England). We meet in a Youth Hall, next to a church. Our Scout Group is the 280th Norton and we meet every Wednesday between 7:45 till 9:30. During this time we participate in a wide range of activates including;
Wide Games - This is an activity, which we do every half term in the holidays. It includes finding hidden objects in the local park, sort of a treasure hunt, but avoiding lots of mud and sweat.
Fire Lighting - On these nights we try to light a fire to cook some sort of food on e.g. soup and noodles in the wood.
Badgework - On these nights we work towards our proficiency badges and progress badges.
Outside Activities - Occasionally we go to places like Lazer-Zone, a laser hunting game, climbing walls and water parks.
Challenges - This month we participated in the Haslehurst Trophy, a weekend activity that includes a very long hike and 10 challenge bases. WE WON 1st and 6th place. I was on the winning team.
Sometimes we go on camps (in the summer). We camp out with the latest high tech equipment e.g. GPS, gas burners and water proof tents.
There are 6 leaders who are very skilled and helpful.
For transport we have a red bus. We can fit 16 Scouts in it and go to most of our activities in it.
Our main fund-raisers each year are the Jumble Sale, which we hold in March and October. We raise about £1,500 each time, covering the costs of the year.
Once every year we have an AGM (Annual General Meeting) where all the years activities and expenses are told to our parents.
If you have any suggestions for activities we could do on Wednesday meetings please email us at jon@nortonscouts.co.uk.
Be Prepared ! Because we are !!
